Live Animal Capture

We offer a live animal capture service for all species.  We have two experienced vets who are qualified darters and have a wealth of expertise across different species from horses and cattle to large exotics.

In the absence of a handling system, or when animals escape, treatment and handling can be carried out by remote chemical injection (darting). This may be the use of sedative drugs to allow procedures to be carried out, or may simply be for the remote injection of antibiotics and wormers.

Live capture of an animal is usually the last option, after all other avenues have been exhausted. When darting an animal for capture or for a procedure to be carried out, the dose can range from light sedation to full anaesthesia, depending on the circumstance, however there is an increased risk with deeper sedations. Each species and environment has its own complications, however our vets are happy to discuss all elements of cases with you and answer any questions you may have.

If you wish to find out more about our darting services, or to discuss a case please contact the practice.
